What is Club Volleyball and why should I play?

Volleyball is a physically demanding sport that takes skill and athletic ability. 

1. You love volleyball and have a great time playing. Since there are so many opportunities to play club, there's no pressure to succeed and make the team. There are tons of teams to choose from and just play the sport for fun.


2. Club gives you the experience you need to play in high school or college. As you probably know, volleyball is a very technical sport when it comes to developing sport specific skills. The more experience you get playing volleyball, the more successful you'll be. It takes a lot of practice to become good at volleyball. Club provides an opportunity to improve your skills all year round.

 

3. You're more likely to make the high school team if you play club. High school coaches want their players to play club. Players that play club will get much needed experience and improve their volleyball skills. High school coaches know how much you'll improve by playing club, so if you do play club, your chances of making the high school team will be much greater.


4. Club will prepare you to play in college. If you play club, you have an opportunity to play volleyball at a high level. There are all different levels of club teams. Play on a great club team and you'll likely become good enough to play in college.


5. You're more likely to get recruited to play in college if you play club. Club is another opportunity for college coaches to see you play. The more you are seen, the better your chances are of playing in college. College coaches like to recruit players from great club teams. If you play on a winning team, you're more likely to be recruited because college coaches want to recruit winners.

What are Tryouts?

To participate in any of the programs, each student - athlete (boys and girls) is required to try out for a team. During tryouts, the student - athletes will be evaluated and placed on a team based on their skill level, potential, and attitude. At the conclusion of the try outs, a Legacy representative will contact the student - athlete’s family with an offer to participate on a team, along with any additional information that may be required.

What is the Tryout fee and what does it cover?

Tryout fee is $75 before August 1st.  The fee covers gym rental and evaluation of each student athlete. After August 1st, the tryout fee becomes $100. 

Does Legacy cut players?

We do not cut any players from our club.  We have created 3 levels of play (Regional, Premier, and National) to give everyone a chance to play. The most skilled players are usually asked to join a Premier or National team (12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s or 18s).

Who coaches the Premier/ National teams? 

The coaches selected to coach our premier and national teams are the most experienced and successful coaches we have within the club. All coaches have undergone extensive training , obtained various certifications and have years of coaching experience.

What is a GEVA Membership and is it mandatory to have?

GEVA is the governing body representing USA Volleyball in our region.  All of the events that we participate in are sanctioned by USA Volleyball and all athletes, coaches and chaperones are required to have a membership, without exception, in order to participate in any of our teams. What is the cost of a GEVA Membership?

The GEVA membership fee for children 12 and under is $20. The membership fee for children 13 and older is $65.  Visit www.geva.org for up to date prices.

How many teams will Legacy have?

We plan to have multiple teams at 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s, and 18s for the 2022-2023 Club Season.  This can vary depending on interest.  Additional teams will be added in age groups where there may be increased interest.

How do you determine the age groups?

Players are placed on teams based on USAV's defined age groups and their skill level. Dependent on a player's birth date, players may qualify for a USAV age group starting at 10U (10 and under) all the way up to 18U.

How many players are picked per team?

Each team will have between 10 and 12 players.

What Club Teams does Legacy offers?

REGIONAL: The Regional experience is fun and designed for athletes who are hungry to learn and improve with a focus on high school volleyball.  This is ideal for student – athletes who:

  • Currently play club or want to play club competitively
  • Currently play or expect to play on their school team

PREMIER: The Premier experience is fun and competitive with a focus on varsity volleyball and/or those interested in playing in college. This is ideal for student – athletes who:

  • Currently play or expect to play on their high school varsity team
  • Desire to compete against the top players in GEVA/ USAV
  • Believe that fun is defined by constant improvement and desire to be part of a team
  • Aspire to play collegiate volleyball

NATIONAL: The National experience fun and offers the most competitive experience for elite varsity athletes who are seriously pursuing a collegiate volleyball opportunity.   This is ideal for student – athletes who:

  • Want to become an impactful high school player and elite athlete with the desire to take your game to the next level
  • Desire to compete against the top players in the country
  • Believe that fun is defined by competitive greatness
  • Without a doubt wishes to compete in college, specifically Division 1 or 2

How much does it cost to play for Legacy?

Club fees are as follows per player:

Regional:         $1,700

Premier:          $3,300

National:         $5,500 + 

Legacy Volleyball Club dues payment(s) can be made by cash, checks, money order, debit, and/or credit card. Payment can either be paid in full by Commitment Day or through a payment plan option.

What do club fees cover?

Club fees are used to cover the club’s operating expenses.  It covers coaches stipend, gym rental, uniform (game jersey & training gear), USA Volleyball certification, tournament entry fees, equipment, insurances, hotel and other administrative/miscellaneous costs. 

Club fees DOES NOT COVER PLAYING TIME. Playing time is earned at practice sessions.

Are there additional expenses to expect?

You can anticipate travel expenses for a few tournaments per season; such as gas, food, and possibly hotel stays.  Group rates, carpooling, and room sharing are often used to minimize these expenses.  These costs vary depending on level of team as some teams don't travel as far as other teams.

Does Legacy provide financial aid and/or assistance for club fees?

Yes, Legacy provides need-based financial aid to players who cannot afford to pay club fees.  We also provide an extended payment plan option for those in need.

Does Legacy provide transportation for my child?

No.  Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to all practices, tournaments and other events.  All practice facilities are easily accessible by car and/or public transportation.

Can I volunteer?

Legacy depends upon parents to volunteer to chaperone and become an Informational parent.

How can I volunteer?

Upon your son’s/daughter’s acceptance into a team, request via email the Iparent/Chaperone guidelines and responsibility to sign up.
