Joel Sanchez

Joel Sanchez started playing volleyball in 2000 at Walton High School before transferring to Lehman High School and playing there from 2001-2004.  

Between those years he played club volleyball under NYC Starlings club and then under Bronx Bombers club. In 2003, Sanchez co-captained the Lehman High School team to a semifinal finish. Then, in 2004 he captained the team to a PSAL championship. 

Following high school, Joel Sanchez joined the Lehman college squad and earned the “Most Improved Player” award following his freshman and sophomore seasons. Following his junior and senior seasons, he earned CUNYAC All Star praise and was also named MVP of his team. 

Joel’s coaching career includes his time serving as a volunteer at Lehman High School and Clinton High School while he was in the middle of his collegiate career. He also spent time coaching at Kennedy High School as well as Walton High school. While with the Bronx Bombers Volleyball Club, Sanchez coached the Boys 17-1's team. He also coached the NYC Boys Empire State Team to a silver medal finish in 2007. After volunteering for two years with the Bombers, he moved on to help develop the first New York City Volleyball Academy, Bameso Volleyball Academy.

While at Bameso, Joel Sanchez represented the Dominican Republic in various nationwide events including the Dominican Patriot Games and Los Juegos Bamesianos. After coaching at the high school and club junior level, he joined the Lehman College coaching staff  as the Associate Head Coach until 2011. 

Coach Sanchez previously coached at Preston High school and currently coaches at Monroe College in the Bronx. At Preston, Sanchez has been running the ‘Joel Sanchez Volleyball Camp’ since 2005 and he was the Varsity Head Coach since 2011. Since then, Joel has won the CHSAA City Championships 5 times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019), becoming one of the winningest coaches in the league. At Monroe College, Sanchez transformed a losing program in 3 months, to become top 10 in the nation within the NJCAA Division 3 Women’s Volleyball programs. I’m 2022, he led the Monroe College program to get another nationally ranked season, and a national championship appearance. Coach Sanchez won the 2022 Region XV championship, led 3 players to be named All-American and became the 2 time, Region Coach of the Year and District Coach of the year.

Sanchez played libero/setter for the Dominican native Moca volleyball team which won 2 silver medals and 2 golds at the USA National Volleyball Tournament. The team was ranked second and then first in the GEVA USA Volleyball Region. Most recently, Sanchez founded the Legacy Men’s National team, which won a Bronze Medal at the USA National Volleyball Tournament in 2016. Joel is still an active player under Legacy's National adult program.

Professionally, Sanchez owns JES Corp, is the Executive Director of Legacy Volleyball Club, is the Executive Director of Thunderboltz Basketball Club, serves as on the GEVA Board of Directors, is an avid investor, and holds an advanced degree in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering.
